VIDEO: Coast Guard Hoists Boater to Safety After Fishing Vessel Sinks in Alaska

SITKA, Alaska — A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew hoisted a stranded boater to safety after his fishing vessel sank near Murder Cove on Admiralty Island and his life raft began taking on water.

The rescue occurred Sept. 28 about two miles east of Murder Cove, according to the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The footage was recorded by the U.S. Coast Guard and posted by DVIDS on Sept. 30.

The official video shows the Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk crew carrying out the rescue. DVIDS identifies the 4-minute, 5-second asset as public domain, subject to its stated use restrictions.

The Coast Guard said the boater had been aboard a fishing vessel that sank before his life raft also began taking on water. The helicopter crew located him and completed the hoist.
