Trump Says U.S. Won’t Slow AI Development, Pushes “Super Intelligence” Rebrand

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Saturday the United States will not slow its development of artificial intelligence, telling reporters he now prefers the term “super intelligence” — a rebrand he says China’s president also backs.

“I don’t call it AI anymore. I call it SI, ‘cause it’s a much better name. It’s a much more accurate name,” Trump told reporters in a gaggle upon departing the White House on Sept. 26. “Artificial means it’s fake — and it’s not fake. It’s very strong intelligence.”

Trump said he raised the name change with Chinese President Xi Jinping following their Sept. 24 summit. “He likes the idea of changing the name to SI too, because it’s much more accurate,” Trump said. “It’s actually much more elegant — but it’s much more accurate.”

The president vowed the U.S. would keep full speed on AI development. “The United States of America is not going to be putting on brakes,” he said, adding that America is “leading China by a lot, and we’re going to keep it that way.”

The White House released the full gaggle video on Sept. 26. The footage is public domain; Zark News edited this clip and added captions.
