Arlington’s Opioid Deaths Fell to Just 3 Last Year. This Year, Police Have Already Counted 5.
Police-investigated fatal opioid overdoses in Arlington County fell from 22 in 2023 to just 3 in 2025 — a drop of 86% in two years, in the county police department’s own published table. Juvenile opioid incidents fell from 32 to 1 over the same period. But the newest figures carry a warning: through September 30, 2026, police have already investigated 5 fatal overdoses — more than in all of 2025. The numbers are small, and small numbers swing easily. Whether the steepest decline in the county’s recorded series is durable is now the open question.
