Police are searching for a suspect after shots were fired outside H.D. Woodson High School in Northeast Washington on Friday night, during the school’s home football game. Officers found evidence of a shooting when they arrived, but they found no victims, police said.
Officers were called to the 500 block of 55th Street NE at about 7:50 p.m. for reported gunshots. Woodson was hosting Ballou High School, and the game, which had started at 6 p.m., was stopped. Police taped off the street in front of the school while officers searched the area.
Police said they are looking for a man seen wearing a gray hoodie, a black coat, black pants and black shoes. Anyone with information about the shooting can call D.C. police at 202-727-9099 or text a tip to 50411.
No injuries had been reported as of Saturday morning, and police had not announced any arrest. A Facebook post that spread widely overnight said shell casings were found in front of the school and that federal agents were on the scene. Police have not confirmed either detail.
FOX 5 DC reported that it asked D.C. Public Schools for comment and was waiting for a response. The school district had not commented publicly as of Saturday morning.
