NASA: Blue Origin Will Deliver the PROMISE Rover to the Moon’s South Pole

“I’m happy to announce that Blue Origin, with their Mark 1 lander, will deliver PROMISE to the lunar surface.” Carlos Garcia-Galán, NASA’s Moon Base Program Manager, announced the assignment at the agency’s Moon Base news conference on Saturday, naming Blue Origin’s Mark 1 lander, flying as Sirius 105, as the vehicle that will carry the PROMISE rover to the Moon. The same Mark 1 line is already set to deliver NASA’s LTVs and the VIPER rover.

Garcia-Galán was speaking at the Moon Base news conference on November 7, 2026, held during the MAX POWER expo at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. PROMISE is a nuclear-powered, six-wheeled rover built at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory from Mars rover spare and test hardware. Blue Origin holds a $94 million base contract, with a $140 million option, to land it near the lunar south pole, targeting late 2028 for the start of an 18-month surface mission. The remarks were carried live by NASA and are public domain.
