Mistral AI announced a public preview of its Large 4 model on Tuesday, with access through its API now and a release of the model’s weights planned by the end of October.

The French company says the system can process images and text, perform coding tasks and support workflows that use software tools. Its launch announcement describes a model with about one trillion parameters, of which 49 billion are active during computation.

Mistral is emphasizing cybersecurity, finance and other professional uses. Its claims about outperforming rival models are company-reported results; Zark News has not independently tested those comparisons.

The distinction between today’s preview and the promised weight release matters. API access lets developers use a system hosted by a provider. Releasing weights would make the trained model available for deployment elsewhere, subject to the eventual license and technical requirements.

The company says selected cybersecurity partners and authorities are testing an expanded version before that release. Reuters independently reported the announcement on October 6.
