Sanders won a second term as Arkansas governor, keeping one of the Republican Party’s most famous names in office.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, 44, grew up in Arkansas politics — her father, Mike Huckabee, governed the state for a decade. She worked on his campaigns, then became a senior adviser to Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and his White House press secretary from 2017 to 2019, a job that made her a national figure.

Elected governor in 2022, she signed an education overhaul raising teacher pay and expanding school choice, cut state income taxes and leaned into fights over what schools teach.

Arkansas is deep-red, and her re-election was expected. The open question is what comes next for a governor with a national following and a famous last name — watch whether Arkansas becomes her springboard or her long-term home.
