Lovlina Borgohain Wins Historic Boxing Gold for India at Asian Games 2026

AICHI-NAGOYA, Japan — India’s Lovlina Borgohain won a historic gold medal in women’s 75kg boxing at the Asian Games on Friday, defeating China’s Bao Ziyi 5-0 in the final to become only the second Indian woman to claim an Asian Games boxing title.

Borgohain led 20-18 through the contest and managed the final round smartly to secure the unanimous decision, according to live updates from the Games. She is only the second Indian female boxer to win an Asian Games gold medal after Mary Kom’s triumph in 2014. India had targeted three boxing golds on Friday, with Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal also in action in their respective finals.

There was more success for India in sailing, where Nethra Kumanan won bronze in the women’s dinghy event. In a two-race final, Kumanan finished sixth in the first race but won the second to take third overall behind Thailand’s Sophia Montgomery and Singapore’s Jania Ang. It was India’s third sailing medal of the Games; Vishnu Saravanan finished fourth in the men’s event and missed the podium. The Indian women’s hockey team was also set to face China in the gold-medal match on Friday, with archery semifinals offering further medal chances.
