Russian Strikes Kill Seven in Kyiv as Ukraine’s Largest Steelmaker Halts Production

KYIV — Russian strikes killed seven people in Kyiv, including a 14-year-old boy, and injured 58, according to Ukrainian authorities cited by Reuters, as repeated attacks also forced Ukraine’s largest steelmaker to halt production.

ArcelorMittal said it was shutting production at Ukraine’s largest steel plant after four strikes in five weeks caused extensive damage and killed five workers. The company told the Ukrainian government that safe and sustainable operations were no longer possible under the current conditions.

The shutdown highlights the widening economic impact of the war. Reuters reported that Ukraine’s steel industry once accounted for about 15% of the country’s exports and has already faced pressure from wartime damage and trade restrictions.

Ukrainian officials have attributed the latest Kyiv deaths and damage to Russian attacks. Zark News has not independently verified battlefield claims from either side.

Why it matters

The attacks are affecting not only civilians and infrastructure but also major industrial capacity. A prolonged shutdown at the country’s largest steel plant could add further pressure to Ukraine’s wartime economy and export base.
