DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 21-year-old Daytona Beach woman was arrested after she posted on social media that she planned to shoot President Donald Trump at his rally in the city on Friday, the Volusia County sheriff said. She told investigators the post was a joke.

Allison Albro posted the message on Instagram on Thursday night. It showed a selfie of her in clown makeup. In the caption she wrote that she was going to the rally in her city “so I can shoot him with my glock” and added, “wish me luck guys.”

Members of the sheriff’s Domestic Security Unit and the U.S. Secret Service went to her home. Sheriff Mike Chitwood said Albro told them she was joking, that she had no access to a Glock or any other weapon, and that she would never hurt anyone.

She was booked into the Volusia County Jail on charges of written threats to kill and unlawful use of a communications device. She is being held without bond. The charges are allegations, and she has not been convicted of any crime.

“We are not going to tolerate threats to assassinate the president,” Chitwood said. He advised anyone thinking of posting a similar “joke” to think twice.

The rally went ahead at the Ocean Center on Friday evening. Trump campaigned for Byron Donalds, who is running for governor, and for Sen. Ashley Moody and Rep. Randy Fine, ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections. Chitwood said his office worked with the Secret Service, the FBI and other law enforcement partners to keep the event safe.
