RAWALPINDI — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday rejected reports that party founder Imran Khan had welcomed the end of the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, calling the claim “completely false,” according to Geo News.

Speaking to reporters in Rawalpindi, Gohar said questions had arisen about Imran Khan’s views following Barrister Salman Safdar’s meeting with the jailed former prime minister at Adiala jail on Monday. “I want to strongly refute one claim aired by a TV channel that Khan Sahib said it was very good that his government had ended in KP. That is completely false,” he said, adding that Imran Khan had never made any such remarks. Gohar said Safdar had told him Imran Khan was aware of the emergency and governor’s rule imposed in KP, but that little political discussion took place during the meeting.

First lawyer meeting since April

Safdar’s meeting with Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, on Monday was the first since April 8, after a long period in which access to the former prime minister was restricted. It lasted about 40 minutes and covered health, living conditions and pending legal cases. On Tuesday, PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja said in a post on X that Safdar had briefed Imran Khan’s family on the details the PTI founder shared about his health and his conditions inside Adiala jail, adding that the family had the first right to be informed about his health.

No forward bloc, party says

Gohar said all PTI lawmakers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained with Imran Khan and that there was no forward bloc in the province. He said any decision about a chief minister for the province would be made by Imran Khan himself. The PTI government in KP was suspended in October when the federal government imposed emergency rule in the province for an initial six months, a move the party has opposed.

Opposition alliance meets Wednesday

The wider opposition alliance was due to meet in Islamabad on Wednesday, November 4, at the residence of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, according to reports by 24NewsHD and Express News. PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan, PTI leader Asad Qaiser and the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, were expected to attend. The agenda was reported to include the political situation, activity in parliament, and the release of Imran Khan, who has been in jail since August 2023.
