Healey won a second term as governor of Massachusetts, one of the safest Democratic states in the country.
Maura Healey, 55, is a lawyer who spent years inside the Massachusetts attorney general’s office before winning the job herself in 2014. As attorney general she led the state’s challenge to the federal ban on same-sex marriage recognition and became a frequent legal opponent of the first Trump administration. She was elected governor in 2022.
Her first term has centered on housing costs, the troubled Boston-area transit system and climate policy. Massachusetts voters have now given her four more years in a state where Democrats hold every statewide office.
Healey’s win was never much in doubt. The harder work is at home: watch her push to build more housing, and whether the MBTA’s long repair backlog finally shrinks.
