DAYTON, Ohio — A Dayton woman has been reunited with her cat after six years apart, recognizing the 14-year-old black cat in a viral social media post by the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.
The cat, named “Eugene” by shelter staff but actually called “Booger” by his owner, had been missing since 2020. He arrived at the shelter in February in critical condition — severely underweight, dehydrated and anemic, suffering from ear mites, severe dental disease, a serious respiratory infection, FIV and ringworm.
He spent seven months in intensive veterinary rehabilitation. Nine of his teeth were lost to disease and nine more had to be removed before he was healthy enough for adoption — which is when the shelter’s post went viral and his owner spotted him.
The reunion took place on Sept. 11, according to the shelter, which shared the story this month.
Shelter officials say the case is a reminder to microchip pets, keep contact information current — and never give up looking.
