Tankers Reported Burning Near the Strait of Hormuz as Iran Rejects Washington’s Latest Reply

Three ships are reported burning near the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran has rejected Washington's latest reply in talks to end the war. Iran's Revolutionary Guard navy says two tankers and a tug are burning inside the strait, and another tanker struck a mine east of it. Britain's maritime agency UKMTO separately reported a tanker hit by two projectiles off Qatar. None of these reports has been independently confirmed.

Oil markets reacted at once, with Brent crude up 2.2 percent on Thursday to about $96.70 a barrel after falling below $100 earlier in the week on hopes of a deal. In Tehran, Mohsen Rezaei called the American reply not convincing, while Qatari mediators expect an answer within about 36 hours on a new proposal. President Trump says the United States has no plans for new military action.
