Hochul won another full term as New York’s governor, in a race the AP called at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Kathy Hochul, 68, came up through local government in the Buffalo suburbs — town board, deputy county clerk, then Erie County clerk — before a surprise special-election win sent her to Congress in 2011. She later served as lieutenant governor and took the top job in 2021 when Andrew Cuomo resigned, becoming the first woman to govern New York. She won a full term in 2022.

Her tenure has been defined by fights over crime, housing and New York City’s congestion-pricing plan, which she paused and then revived at a lower price.

Re-election keeps a Democrat in charge of the country’s fourth-largest state through 2030. Watch her rocky relationship with New York City’s mayor and the state budget, where she has tried to hold the line on taxes.
