“Turn around and look at who’s behind you.” CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott, at the Port of Miami, telling reporters to credit the officers and agents behind his agency’s fiscal year 2026 Florida results — and the backing they get from the President. Video: CBP
Border Czar Tom Homan and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney S. Scott appeared together at the Port of Miami on Thursday, October 29, 2026, to present the agency’s fiscal year 2026 border security results in Florida, joined by Homeland Security Task Force leaders and the U.S. Coast Guard. In the remarks above, Scott asks the reporters in front of him to turn around and look at the officers standing behind him. He credits CBP’s agents, officers and professional staff, and partner agencies including the Coast Guard, ICE, the Department of Justice, the DEA and the FBI. None of it, he says, would be possible without the “top cover” from the President, Secretary Mullin and “an amazing border czar standing right behind me” — Border Czar Tom Homan — because the officers and agents know the administration has their back.
The numbers CBP released with the event: apprehensions of people trying to enter Florida by sea in the Border Patrol’s Miami Sector fell more than 90 percent from fiscal year 2025 to fiscal year 2026. CBP’s Air and Marine Operations seized more than 17,000 pounds of narcotics around Miami, up from just over 7,000 pounds a year earlier. Through Operation Gateway Blockade, CBP officers in Florida made nearly 200 weapons-related seizures, stopping more than 200 firearms and more than 150,000 rounds of ammunition the agency says were bound for criminal organizations overseas. After the remarks, Air and Marine Operations ran a maritime smuggling take-down demonstration for the cameras.
