Obama: “Nobody Asked This Administration to Send Masked Agents Running Through Our Streets”

Immigration enforcement has been one of the most contested issues of the campaign. The Trump administration has sent federal agents into American cities in a deportation drive it says targets criminals and restores order. Critics, including Obama, say the raids have swept up people with no criminal record, and that masked agents working without clear identification cross a line in a democracy. Obama pointed to people he said were pulled over, handcuffed, and in some cases shot and killed by federal agents. His argument in Atlanta was that the choice is false: a country can secure its border, he said, without sending masked agents through its own streets.
