Guterres Meets Ishaq Dar in Islamabad as Pakistan Visit Begins

ISLAMABAD — Oct. 6, 2026 — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Tuesday, opening substantive talks during his three-day visit to Pakistan.

Pakistan’s official account said their discussion covered Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir, Afghanistan, counterterrorism and multilateral cooperation. Dar also outlined Pakistan’s position on the Indus Waters Treaty and its role facilitating talks between the United States and Iran.

According to the Pakistani account, Guterres welcomed the country’s contributions to the UN and its diplomatic work on dialogue and de-escalation. Arab News independently reported the meeting.

Visit runs through Thursday

Guterres arrived earlier Tuesday. The Foreign Ministry’s announced programme for Oct. 6–8 includes meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s military leadership, alongside visits to UNMOGIP and the National Disaster Management Authority. Those engagements were announced as planned; this report does not treat them as completed.
