PUERTO RICO — Federal and Puerto Rico responders carried out a coordinated rescue after a yola-type vessel capsized near the Mona Passage, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection reporting that Air and Marine Operations agents accounted for 52 migrants.
CBP’s official description says those accounted for included people rescued from the water and from the vessel. Three deceased individuals were recovered.
The footage was recorded Sept. 28, 2026, and posted Sept. 29 through the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. DVIDS lists the 3-minute, 48-second CBP B-roll as public domain, subject to DVIDS restrictions.
A separate U.S. Coast Guard DVIDS release from the same response shows a CBP Air and Marine Operations aircraft flying over a Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen helicopter crew rescuing people from the water off Mona Island. Earlier figures released during the evolving operation differed as the search continued.
