Pillen won a second term as Nebraska’s governor, extending the run of a farmer-governor in a reliably Republican state.
Jim Pillen, 70, is a veterinarian who built one of the country’s largest family hog operations, Pillen Family Farms, and played football at the University of Nebraska under Tom Osborne. He served a decade on the university’s Board of Regents before winning the governorship in 2022, promising to run the state like a business and cut its high property taxes.
His first term has focused on property-tax relief, school funding and tight state budgets, and he has governed as a social conservative in a state that backs Republicans for nearly every office.
Nebraska’s two electoral votes from Omaha — the famous “blue dot” — will still matter nationally, but the governor’s office is not in suspense. Watch whether his property-tax push finally delivers the deep cuts farmers and homeowners have been promised.
