Jon Ossoff beat U.S. Rep. Mike Collins to win a second term, and he won more than half the vote, so Georgia will not hold a runoff.
Jon Ossoff is Georgia’s senior senator. At 39, he is one of the youngest members of the Senate.
Before politics, Ossoff ran a company that made investigative documentaries. His films looked at corruption and war crimes around the world.
He first won his seat in the January 2021 runoff election. That race decided which party would control the Senate, and it made Ossoff a national name almost overnight.
On Tuesday, he defeated Mike Collins, a Republican congressman who gave up his House seat to run for the Senate. The Associated Press called the race at 7:55 p.m. ET. Because Ossoff won a majority of the vote, Georgia does not need the runoff election that its close races often require.
His win matters because Georgia is one of the most contested states in the country. Keeping this seat was a must for Democrats. Watch how Ossoff uses a second term — and whether his name keeps coming up in talk about bigger races ahead.
